Super Novae - Geographical Areas

Palestine - Gaza

In Gaza, we support the resilience of children and adults through informal education and psychosocial support, with a “cash for work” approach. The needs are huge. Through daily contact with internally displaced persons and frequent additional field missions, Super-Novae is constantly on the lookout for the best approaches and means to best support the population.

background

In June 2024, the humanitarian situation in Gaza, especially in Rafah, was disastrous. The Israel Defense Forces have launched extensive military operations in the region, resulting in serious destruction and major population displacements. More than 800,000 people were forced to move to Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah, while another 100,000 were displaced in northern Gaza. IDF control of the Rafah crossing has prevented almost all supplies from entering the Gaza Strip, with only minimal aid being delivered through the Kerem Shalom crossing. This blockade, along with security constraints, has seriously affected the delivery of essential goods and fuel, disrupting critical infrastructure and the distribution of humanitarian aid. Many humanitarian organizations have had to suspend their operations and relocate. The humanitarian community is also warning of increased health risks in overcrowded areas, especially with the arrival of summer and reduced access to water, sanitation, and health care facilities.

What do we do

Present in Gaza since May 2023, thanks to the support of the Crisis and Support Center of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, for an intervention in favor of the empowerment of women, Super-Novae saw its project de facto interrupted on October 7, 2023. Our teams on site, but also from headquarters and Tunisia, then made every effort to reallocate the available funds towards a “multi-purpose cash assistance” intervention, working with the humanitarian community and PalPay, to support the response of 1,300 people to their primary needs. Following an assessment mission to Rafah in March 2023, Super-Novae received an additional 800,000 euros from France to set up a program to help young adults organize recreational activities for children in informal camps for displaced persons through a “cash for work” initiative. Super-Novae also provides economic support to psychologists in Gaza to meet mental health and psychosocial needs through group sessions. WHAT MORE DO WE WANT TO DO? The needs are huge, Super-Novae wants to do more. Continue our psychosocial support actions, support the gradual return of children to school, and support the small exchanges of trade and services necessary for the community by creating temporary training spaces. What's next

With an office in Jerusalem soon, Super-Novae reiterates the need to also support the economic resilience, mental health and social cohesion of the population of the West Bank. Super-Novae has designed a 1,500,000 euros project and is ready to deploy it, targeting 550 young people in Ramallah and Nablus, including 100 Gaza workers stuck in the West Bank.
